While over half of PhD students begin graduate school with the career goal of obtaining a faculty position, one-third lose their interest in faculty careers during their PhD and half lose an initial interest in becoming faculty at a research university.

For under-represented students, this drop in interest is 50% larger than the corresponding drop for the group whose interest stays high: majority males.

Our goal is to eliminate this gap.

There is overwhelming evidence  that a non-inclusive climate experienced by under-represented students can derail these career goals.

We can create an environment where under-represented students are supported by their advisor and peers, participate fully in faculty preparation, and have the confidence to seek faculty positions.

We cannot afford to lose the talent of our under-represented students from entering the professoriate and missing opportunities to impact society through their teaching, mentoring, and research.
